During the last presidential election I worked for a local nonprofit in which I “bird dogged” the presidential candidates on issues pertaining to the organization. I have the opportunity to do so again this year though I’m not getting paid for it. Since New Hampshire has the first in the nation primary it’s almost impossible to walk down the street without running into a candidate. It is one of the things I love most about living here!
The word “bird dog” has lots of meanings. In this case it means someone who focuses in on a candidate and asks them pointed questions on a particular subject.
In the past I’ve asked questions about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, nuclear weapons and energy (did you know nuclear power plants across the nation are big donors to the Obama campaign?), terrorism, and other issues around peace.
So I’m opening it up to my readers here. What would you like me to ask a candidate? Leave a comment and please specify the candidate(s) you would like me to ask. I can’t make any promises but I will try to get to the best questions. I will write a post with the answers.
Here is the format:
Compliment then question. For instance, if I were to ask Obama about the wars in the Middle East I’d say something like “Congratulations on winning the Nobel Peace Prize. That is such an honor and I’m glad a US president won in my lifetime. Here is my question: Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein are both dead and the threat to the US has diminished. What is the FIRST step you will take to bring home all our troops and what your time table for doing so?
